How dare we ask for support?
Good question. Our crowd-funding campaign needs to raise money, yes. Without the dollars we won’t be able to do much.) More than that, this is about creating a community of delightful, slightly mad human creatures who can participate in a new musical that just is not possible with any other show. We’re giving people of all ages and cultural backgrounds the chance to get their Eurovision on!
Here’s the problem
Tickets to most commercial musicals are expensive. Really expensive. Most people can’t afford to even THINK about going.
Research shows that minority groups are vastly under-represented in mainstream arts, increasing their sense of isolation. Isolation, as we know, is not good.
But we’re fixing it.
Song Contest – Almost Eurovision turns the whole process of making a musical on its head. With YOUR help, we will:
Price our musical tickets affordably.
Allow people to create content for the show. People connect more with one another which creates trust, safety and a real sense of community. Community is good.
How it works
Plonking a musical in a city or town is okay, but creating the show WITH the community creates vital connection to local arts, culture and community.
This is exactly what Song Contest – Almost Eurovision does. And, as far as we know, it’s what no other musical can do.
This year, we’ll work with people from all backgrounds to contribute songs, design costumes, create choirs and contribute their creative talents to the production. The result? A December production co-created by the beating heart of the community FOR the community.
It’s all about letting ordinary people contribute their talent and creative ideas. We can’t wait to see who’s out there – and give them a platform to shine (or to at least twinkle).
Together, we will create a much-anticipated annual family show.
